Things is...as you know, the EU is as much to blame for the break up of Yugoslavia as was Slobo etc was. And personally, I think that Yugoslavia, as was, would be a lot better member of the EU than these tiny little states which could are not viable except as part of a kind of Greater EU (which is what it is turning into) with little client states to take labour from etc.

Well...

If the ruling elites in Serbia and Montenegro were as eager to please Brussels as you suggest, Mladic and Karadzic would be in prison in The Hague right now and the threshold for a "valid" yes would have been set at 99%.

Which is to say that I don't see your point. At all.

IMHO Brussels mingling in the internal affairs of the current and ex Enlargement countries is actually the best thing that happened to them in the past century. Sorry :-)

The ourrage, to me, about this is that the ruling elites in Serbia and Montenegro seem more worried about pleasing their new EU masters than they do pleasing their people. The influence of the EU in the internal affairs of these countries is scandalous. It is they who are putting conditions on what percentage of the vore counts as a 'yes' vote, for instance.

And you are right to question if this new state is a viable one. To me it seems doubtful. These are new creations to please Brussels. Period.
